A “mini hothouse” set in a windowsill.

In about four to six weeks the plants will put out new growth, indicating roots have formed. At this time remove the plastic bag. When strong new leaves have formed, you can begin feeding with a good liquid houseplant food given at half strength. When the plants reach about five inches, pinch the top growing parts to encourage bushy growth.

After the new plants are firmly established and thriving, you can transplant them to more decorative pots. If you live in a harsh winter area, be sure to protect them until spring (usually by keeping them indoors or on a sheltered porch).
